You can find it just a few hundred meters from Ca'Poggiolo. It mostly follows the route of the railway, decommissioned in the 1960s, which connected Calalzo to Cortina d'Ampezzo and then to Dobbiaco. Clean and well maintained, it is about 60 km long, before continuing towards San Candido, reaching Lienz in Austria and well beyond. It is mostly paved, except for short sections due to possible ongoing construction: it is unpaved from Cimabanche to Dobbiaco. A stretch that is very popular with tourists (perhaps too crowded in high season) is the one that connects San Candido to Lienz (Austria), almost all slightly downhill, along the Drava river which, after crossing five countries, flows into the Danube. The San Candido/Lienz route is about 40 km, passing through villages, meadows, and woods; for those with a sweet tooth, a stop at the Austrian Loacker biscuit factory is almost a must, where there is a very well-equipped refreshment point (just a few years ago it was a wooden hut). To avoid the uphill return, many prefer to take the train from Lienz back to San Candido. The Dolomites cycle path has encouraged clean and ecological sporting activity, a true passion for many cycle tourists who are amazed by the variety of places they pass through and the magnificent landscapes that surround them. Exceptional for nature lovers, lots of greenery and pure air.
