For the tourist staying at Ca'Poggiolo there are plenty of things to do, but one in particular is immediately within reach. Look up to the north/west behind the House, that white spot almost a thousand meters above your head is the Church of San Dionisio (1946 m). The Church was built in 1910, on the site of an ancient shrine constructed in 1508. We suggest two ways to get there. 2) There is a less strenuous way to reach San Dionisio. Go to the old Valle railway station and rent a shuttle to Rif. Costapiana (1570 m). From there, along trail 251, climb up to San Dionisio walking for about 45 minutes. From San Dionisio you will enjoy a spectacular view over all of Cadore and beyond, an unforgettable thrill (it won't be hard to spot Ca'Poggiolo from there as well). If you really want to ring the little church bell (it is said to bring good luck), do so very sparingly. A great trip, not to be missed!
1) Start on foot from Ca'Poggiolo and head towards the ancient Church of San Bartolomeo, just behind the House. Continue along the paved road until you soon reach the sign on the left for trail 254 towards Monte Antelao. With a steep climb through the woods (700 m elevation gain) you will reach Forcella Antracisa; take a rest and refresh yourself with the excellent water that flows from a small fountain. At this point you have two choices. You can go left and proceed directly towards San Dionisio (with another 300 m of elevation gain), or climb another 100 m along a dirt road towards Rif. Antelao (a great place to refresh yourself): from here, another climb towards San Dionisio. Total ascent time, about 2.5 hours.
