A kind of eagle's nest, built in 1883, is the oldest refuge in the Dolomites. Here you can touch the sky with a finger. You can get there by car on the SR48, which from Cortina leads to Passo Falzarego and, just before the Pass, you turn left into the large parking lot below the Cinque Torri. Here you have two choices: take the comfortable cable car up to Rifugio Scoiattoli (2255 m) or walk up. Once you arrive, a world of possibilities opens up to you, one of which is the climb to Rifugio Nuvolau. Backpack on your shoulders, you reach it along a trail (439) among the rocks that, in the first part, follows a wide road. For the more daring, experienced, and physically fit, there is another route that starts from Rifugio Averau (2413 m) and along trails 452 and 438 takes you to the Ra Gusela via ferrata, a great thrill! At Rifugio Nuvolau, catch your breath, sunbathe, take amazing photos, and eat those dishes that taste so much of the high mountains. It's really worth getting there!
